Roof Tiles and Eaves Done

They look good.
House at dusk

Smashed window :-(  the eaves were not completed when I took this last night but today they were all done.

Now onto the internals which are not nearly as exciting for us as we won't be able to see all the changes.

The question I now pose myself is with nothing to really see will I be able to stop myself from going to the house every few days? Hmmmmm maybe not.

Feature Tile for Ensuite

FI forgot to post our feature tile for ensuite. After much thought we went with something safe and timeless(we hope).

The selected floor tile is sitting on the base of the stand. It matches the mid grey in the feature tile. This tile will only be over our shower so not dominating.

Roof Tiles

I went past the house to see if there has been progress and half the roof tiles were on. It seems todays predicted rain and wind hadn't put off the roofer. There was a posy of what seemed to be teenage roof tilers at the house first thing this morning.

Photos will come soon.

Cleaned and gutted errr guttered

Get my corny fish reference in the title ha ha.

I went past and they have done the guttering which looks nice. The bricks were cleaned yesterday. The bricks look a bit darker but I like the finish. Some mortar has come out and some bagging came off I guess they will touch that up. I hope they will. They are going to have the roof tiling done by Friday of next week I am told by SS. Pending no rain of course.

Bricks are done

I was bed ridden, well lounge ridden with illness yesterday so I'm not sure when they completed them but the bricks are complete. I took this on the way to work this am.

I think it looks great. The bagging is finished and the ledges are nice. I love the off white mortar. It's so nice. I love the bagging like this. Of course it will be painted but I like the roughness and colour at the moment. I'm thinking we should have chose a light paint colour now. Oh well doesn't matter I'm sure I will love the end result once I see it.

Just a follow up: I did email the SS about the brick colour and he said it's a natural part of clay bricks and impossible to throw out all the bricks with any variation. PGH hand pick their bricks for the sample walls. Makes sense. I noticed this morning though that they had to get more bricks delivered to our site to finish. Interestingly the new bricks are grey coloured over a red base instead of the original grey over a taupe base. That may explain the sudden seeming explosion of tan showing through. Anyway it seems he made sure that they used bricks with as little brown as possible in the front ledges and they look good. The house is very pleasing I must say.

Bricks are almost done.

I would say they are done by now. They just had to do the window ledges not sure of their proper name or if they have one, they probably do.

I love how the house is looking so far, it's fantastic and just what I wanted, maybe even better. I can't wait to see the gutters and roof tiles go on.

View from up the street. Nice.
Lovely sunlight on the house. The right neighbour is set back so
we will still get this afternoon light to a degree espcially in the summer.

Windows are unveiled...nice.
The bricks are nice and light.
You can see where the bricks are drawing moisture
from the slab at the moment so they are darker.
They will dry once the slab cures completly.
Overall we are very pleased with how it looks thus far and the brick work is good, ironed joins look great. I do have one little gripe. There are a few  brownish bricks in the mix. This is one of the window ledges with lots of brown according to PGH the brick manufactuer these bricks should have been tossed. I have to say I am being a bit picky but this is my home. I can live with these few brown bricks but I would have prefrred they were completly grey. I hope they don't get browner when they clean them.

I am going to miss this country view when we move

I really like our rental. It's a bit pricey but such a nice place to live. Right on the border of suburbia and the country. There are cows across the road.

This is the view from our bedroom window. It's so peaceful.

Bricks

They have partially bagged the portico and the window bars have been added. I love the windows. They are just what I wanted.

Street shot. That fence is lovely hey!

side wall complete

There are a lots of discoloured bricks in this lot so the brickie is having to toss lots but I noticed a couple of them have snuck in. Hmmm. They are not supposed to be brown.
It's well underway now. Just need the right hand side and a little of the back doing and it's done. I hope it is finished by weeks end.

New Lounge

We have been looking at lounges for a while. Saturday we spent ages sitting on couches and lying down. We went back yesterday and ordered it. This is it.

We chose a cream colour, it's getting fabric protection and we got the ottoman. Sweet.

This is the colour.
We're really happy with it. The style, comfort, size, colour and price were all right. As a bonus delivery is right around the time we should be moving 14 weeks.

Below are others we had seen and liked on our travels. We hadn't realised but when we looked at photos to see what we had liked at other stores we realised they are the same couch pretty much.
Option 1 - legs maybe a little too light and angular

Option 2 - my favorite buy VERY expensive

Option 3 - the leather felt too cold and slippery and I wanted snuggly
All in all we are very happy.

Internal doors

I don't think I posted our internal doors. I love the doors They are a classic style but not Nanna doors.

We decided to have an extra door put in between our family room and bedroom hallway. That way we can put the dogs in there when we are out and their water bowl can live in the laundry. Also Jordi is blind these days so he will benefit from the restricted space by not having accidents falling down stairs and such. It also stops Indi the dog that chews everything from colouring books to expensive Rayban prescription sunglasses from having access to our belongings. That is provided we keep the bedroom doors shut.

Final tiles

So here are our final choices.

Main floor tile - Chalet Ice, with white kitchen splash back tiles - Classic White(as opposed to vivid white), glass feature tile  - Ice, caesar stone bench top - White Shimmer and cabinet colour - Classic White.

Or should we have three rows? Still undecided.

Master bathroom - white tiles with grey feature tile and dark grey floor tile named Renaissance Argento. We both love this combo. We both liked the striped feature tile the first time we went browsing and fortunatley they still had it as an option. They had other colours too but they have all been discountinued.

Ensuite feature tile TBA

Bedroom carpert Aged Driftwood. You can also see a sample of the paint colour Taubmans White Smoke in the middle and the travertine look tile for our ensuite. I love this floor tile. Hopefully M will too.

Front porch tile - Preda Smokey White with possible feature tile mixed quartz charcoal. Would match the charcoal driveway.

We discussed which is the most important tile to have kitchen feature or porch feature of course we both said the opposite of the other. M = kitchen. N = Porch. I said neither are "important" I won't fight if it comes down to dollars M can have his way. He also got his preference on the kitchen benches. I went off the Ice Snow after seeing it used at McDonald's. I compared Osprey(another McDonald's fav) and White Shimmer and thought what the heck...go the sparkle! M was pleased and so am I now. I need to sit with things sometimes and I have had alot of time to ponder.

Seems our house is going to be one smokey, icy house. Matches my often contradictory personality. Hot and cold. LOL!

Tiles

Well we selected the final tiles last week. There is a funny story behind it though.

M and I went to make the initial selections together. Then I had an appointment to advise the tiler of our final choices last Friday as M couldn't make it.

Now I liked this wall tile for our ensuite as a feature

but M wasn't as keen. Plus we felt that it needed a grey floor tile and that a less grey floor tile went better against our taupe carpet.

So we both liked another similar feature tile in a taupe colour. As shown here.

Honestly I like this less but M said lets have that one. Now you just need to find a floor tile to match it. I hated the floor tile they had matched up with it. It looked like ostrich skin to me. Not a good look on a tile.

I also had to select a feature tile for the front porch to give this effect.

M also suggested that we have a feature tile in the kitchen. He left this up to me to choose. He could vito them if he didn't like them and the cost still may put them out anyway. We agreed other than this brief that I wouldn't change any of the other tiles, which is fair enough.

So I trotted off to the tiler and advised him of all our selections. I then found a gorgeous floor tile to match the aforementioned feature tile. Not a great pic but it is a travertine look tile. You can see a small section of carpet with it here.

And then with more carpet and paint here.

As I was doing it I noticed some other plainer but still nice feature tiles but as we agreed I didn't want to go against M. I also had to phone reception so couldn't call him for a consult. So thinking he loved this tile I chose it and left. Nothing more to say.

As I drove away I doubted if I really loved it. This is not a good sign for me. I do really like it but am scared that I won't like it in a few years. Then we will be stuck with it long term. I mean we won't be getting a new bathroom until the tiles start popping off I imagine. Well I hope they don't do that but you get my drift, it'll be a while. So I silently wondered had we made a mistake.

I wondered all weekend and then I finally couldn't take it anymore and mentioned my uncertainty. M informed me that this tile was the lesser of two evils so to speak and went with it thinking I loved it. Which I do but ahhhhhhh.

I rang the tiler today and he said I can come in and change that particular tile even though I really have made the final choice. I told him we are not that happy with it and would rather a plain white tile than a tile that I am not sure about. I know myself and if I am not 100% about it and then get told I can't change it I will  HATE it.

I am now waiting for him to call back to let me know what time. Phew! Disaster avoided.

Lounges

We did a little lounge suit browsing today and we both like these two lounges for our media room. Sorry for the poor phone photos I thought I didn't have my camera only to later realise I did. Oh well.
